National Conference on "Recent Advances in Algal Biotechnology":

Phycological Society, India and Centre for advanced studies in Botany, University of Madras, Chennai jointly organize a National Conference on " Recent advances in Algal Biotechnology" during 16 and 17th February, 2012.

M.O.P. Iyengar Quasquicentennial year celebration

Mandayam Osuri Parthasarathy Iyengar (1886-1963) was a prominent Indian Botanist and Phycologist who worked on different groups of algae. He studied the structure, cytology, reproduction and taxonomy of major groups of algae. He is known as "FATHER OF INDIAN PHYCOLOGY" for his contributions to our understanding on algae. An active teacher all his life, Iyengar had acquired a reputation for the undisputable for observations on algae.
Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany is delighted to celebrate his 125th year anniversary to honour his contribution towards the field of Algology.
About the conference
The broad aim of this conference is to provide a platform for the algologists of the country to exchange information on the following themes: Algal Taxonomy, Algal Biotechnology, Biodiversity, Biofertilizer, Molecular Algology, Seaweed liquid Fertilizer, Algal Biofuels, Impact of climate change on algal ecology, Nanobiotechnology
The programme includes invited and contributory lectures and posters in the above mentioned themes.
Call for Abstracts
Abstracts conforming to the themes of the conference are invited for presentation. Abstracts should not exceed more than 300 words typed in MS word font size 12 in Times New Roman in single line space. The presenting author should be indicated by an asterisk. A soft copy should reach to the Organizing Secretary, NCRAAB-2012 on or before 28, Jan. 2012 (E-mail:
Organizing Committee will select the papers for Oral and Poster presentations. The overall best paper from oral presentation will be certified as “YOUNG ALGOLOGIST AWARD.”
Participants from Institutes/ Universi-ties/Colleges/Industries, etc, are requested to pay the registration fees as per the details given below:

Research Scholars and students: Rs 500; Faculty members/ Scientists: Rs 1000; Industrial representative: Rs 2000; Accompanying person: Rs 300

The Registration fee can be paid by a Demand Draft drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of “The Organizing Secretary, NCRAAB– 2012 ” payable at Chennai. Click here for registration form

Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for stay. How-ever, accommodation will be provided for outstation participants based on their request and advance payment, subject to availability.

Location of the Venue
The Conference venue is located at Maraimalai Campus, Guindy, University of Madras, Chennai - 600 025. It is around 12 km from Chennai Central Railway Station; 10 km from Egmore Railway Station and 7 km from Chennai Airport.

Only paper for the oral presen-tation will be considered for this award.
